Premium Reverse Billing is a micro-payment solution used for billing users from 10p up to 10.00GBP in a single SMS message. Reverse billing works in two stages. Firstly, the user must send a message into a short code (a 4 – 5 digit number). This message acts as a 'trigger' and allows you to send messages back to the mobile subscriber. The return messages are billed to the end subscriber, not to you. Different tarrifs allow for different amount of funds to be charged to the customer. The mobile operator of the subscriber then pays out a certain amount of the revenue to Capitext. Capitext then passes on revenue to you. The percentage of revenue that the operator releases is often dependant on the volumes of messages being sent, see our pricing schedule for up to date information on payout rates that you would receive for different operators and tarrifs.
Capitext's reverse billing solution allows you to operate reverse billing on O2, Vodafone, T-Mobile and Orange in the United Kingdom – we also support networks in Ireland, Germany, The Netherlands and Switzerland.
Reverse billing can be adopted to serve many applications, including:
Sending premium information to your customers. (eg: football results, stock market information, email to sms) |
Allowing people to buy ringtones and logo's from you using SMS. You can send logos, ringtones and a host of other binary data using Capitext's SMS Plus service. |
Bill customers for MMS. Although premium rate MMS will not be made available by all UK operators for some time, an incoming MMS message may act as a 'trigger' for reverse billed SMS messages to be sent back to the customer. This means you can allow customers to use MMS to upload photos and other multi-media data to your platform, and they can be billed by SMS. |
Mobile voting is becoming extreemly popular. Television shows in particular are using reverse billing extensivly to generate revenue from interactive participation in shows by voting. |
Use recurring billing to automatically charge customers for services and renew their subscription periodically. |
Using Capitext's reverse billing solution, we can either assign you with a dedicated short code on each of the 4 networks – or we can assign you a key word to use on one of our shared short codes. Shared short codes require the customer to enter in your keyword as the first word of the message, when the incoming message arrives on our network we can identify the message as destined for you by looking at the keyword.
This is common choice for companies exploring the possibilites of reverse billing, shared shortcodes are used a lot by companies that have in their marketing, for example, 'text POLY to 99999'
Please note that by using premium rate services through Capitext, you must abide by the codes of practice specified by ICSTIS. Visit their web page on http://www.icstis.org.uk to find our more information.
